What is ROOS UNITED?

ROOS UNITED is the umbrella giving vehicle for Kansas City Athletics. ROOS UNITED includes giving opportunities to the Roo Athletic Annual Fund, Sport Excellence Funds and the True Blue NIL Fund.

 

Why should I give to ROOS UNITED?

Give to ROOS UNITED to make an impact on the lives of more than 250 Roos student-athletes. Additionally, giving will provide a greater connection with the Roos including insights into the department, special event invitations and more!

 

What is the difference between the Roo Athletic Fund and Sports Excellence Funds?

The Roo Athletic Fund is the general unrestricted fundraising arm of Kansas City Athletics. Gifts made to the RAF support scholarships and provide academic and nutritional support to Kansas City student-athletes. Gifts made to Sports Excellence Funds will support the sport specific operating budgets and special initiatives of the specific sport.

What is the minimum amount needed to join ROOS UNITED?

You can join ROOS UNITED for as little as $19.76 (1976 is the year UMKC moved to NCAA Division 1)! Monthly payments plans are also available to provide opportunities for greater impact that fit your budget.

What are my ROOS UNITED benefits?

ROOS UNITED benefits begin at just $19.76, which coincides with the first year of Division 1 athletics at UMKC.  As a member of ROOS UNITED you will receive exclusive benefits, such as gear, invitations to special events, parking benefits and more, based on your contribution level. All contributors gain the satisfaction of making a positive impact on the academic and athletic success of Kansas City Athletics and its 250+ student-athletes. Benefits vary by giving level in the fiscal calendar year (July 1 - June 30). In most cases your gifts are tax deductible but please consult with your tax advisor on benefits and tax deductibility.

Is my donation tax deductible?

Yes, your donation is tax deductible. The amount of tax deduction depends on the benefits accepted. If you choose to waive all of your ROOS UNITED benefits your gift is 100% tax deductible. Please consult your tax advisor with specific questions.

How can I make my gift?

You can make your ROOS UNITED gift on-line here.

Additionally, we accept the following forms of contributions:

  • Cash- For security reasons, we only accept cash donations at the Ticket Office or UMKC Foundation.

  • Credit Card

  • Check

  • IRA

  • Securities

  • Donor Advised Funds

  • In-Kind Gifts- Items that offset our budget, i.e. food, hotel rooms, equipment, and enhance the student-athlete experience, i.e. vehicles for team transportation, equipment, etc. may be accepted for credit. Please consult a member of our team at Athletics@umkc.edu if you have an idea for an in-kind gift you feel may help the Roos.

 

Can I utilize my employer’s matching gift program?
Yes, many companies will match gifts made to ROOS UNITED.

 

Where does the money go for processing?

All donations to UMKC, including those to Kansas City Athletics, are processed through the UMKC Foundation. Your gift history will be recorded both in Athletics and by the UMKC Foundation and your gift receipt will come from the UMKC Foundation. Your donor record will be accessible through your dual gift/ticket Paciolan account. If you need help accessing your Paciolan account please email us at Athletics@UMKC.edu or call 816-889-8758.

Rest assured that ALL donations made earmarked to Athletics are used by Kansas City Athletics.

 

What is the True Blue NIL Fund?

The "House v. NCAA" settlement, passed in June 2025 addresses antitrust claims against the NCAA and its Power Five conferences, leading to a $2.8 billion payment to former athletes and establishing a revenue-sharing model for student-athletes. The True Blue NIL Fund allows alumni, donors, and friends of Kansas City Athletics to support their favorite sport through resources earmarked for NIL activation.

Is my contribution tax deductible?
Yes, your contribution is tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law. For specific questions regarding the deductibility of your contribution please contact your tax advisor.
